Meet Jeff & Brooke (& Sloane!)
Husband and wife team Jeff Bailey and Brooke Baxter Bailey each spent over a decade in Brooklyn, making their mark as part of the cultural fabric that exists in Williamsburg today.
Brooke Baxter Bailey’s group of Brooklyn-based businesses, including Glass House Gallery, founded in 2004, The GlassLands, founded in 2006 and The Manhattan Inn Piano Bar and Restaurant, founded in 2009, received critical acclaim from The New York Times, New York Magazine, Esquire, The New York Press, Eater, CNBC, Time Out New York, to name a few. Attracting performances from bands such as Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, MGMT, Moby, Lana Del Ray, Thurston Moore, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Brooke is often lauded for creating unique and beautiful environments. Patrons of her establishments could expect to have an engaging and interactive experience like no other.
In addition to entertainment spaces, Brooke has extensive experience and a great passion for community fundraising. Through her businesses, she has worked with local residents and peers to find ways to enrich and be of service to the community, with a focus on free programming for kids involving art and music. In 2008, she and partner Rolyn Hu founded the "GlassLands After School Program." GlassLands worked with local youth Officer Evans to provide a free after school program in a safe environment for local public school students to learn art, music and screen printing.
Now a wife and mother, she has turned her focus towards a new endeavor, which includes artistic cultivation and mountain hospitality. She fell in love with the Catskills at a young age when her Father, stand-up comedian Billy Baxter, began bringing with alon for the weekends while he performed at such Catskills resorts as the Nevele, Kutsher's and The Concord. Brooke could not be happier or feel more at home returning to the Catskills with her family to become a full time resident and new business owner.
Jeff Bailey is a seasoned professional musician who has logged many miles on the road, including seven years as the bassist for critically acclaimed band Phosphorescent. He has performed on three continents, several late night TV shows (including David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon), and backed Willie Nelson at Farm Aid.
In addition to playing on several of Phosphorescent records, his playing can be heard on albums by Belgian artist Admiral Freebee, Virgin Forest, and master poet Bill Whitten. In 2012, he found time to open the much loved "WhirlyBird Top Notch Espresso and Breakfast Tacos", a Southside Williamsburg staple for several years. A favorite among the NY press, Whirlybird’s taco was named one of NYC's best dishes by Time Out New York in its first year of business.
Jeff fell in love with Phoenicia back in 2003, when he came up to play music. He always figured he'd settled down here. Currently, he spends his days fixing the place up, and is a volunteer fireman at the M.F. Whitney Hose Company in Phoenicia. After the birth of their daughter Brooke and Jeff decided to sell their Brooklyn businesses and head for a more scenic life in the mountains. They have combined all of their experiences and love for the arts, entertainment and music in order to create the one-of-a-kind Glass Mountain Inn.
